The Gdansk barns
eat entire cornfields.
Children draw them
With eyes and a mouth
That open and close
At the decorous hours.
They have translucent walls
So the envy can then salivate
By the doors of the corn merchants.
They are fleshy nouns
Waiting for a verb to convince them
To open their stubborn hands.
